Item description for Bktrax-Disc-Lunatic (Lost Books V5) (Unabridged)(5CD) by Ted Dekker & Adam Verner...

Fight with the horde... or die with love. Separated by time and space, our heroes finally return home. But five years have passed and they find a nightmarishly changed world. The despised Horde are now in control. The healing lakes of Elyon are now blood red. And mighty Thomas Hunter and his Forest Guard have disappeared. Then the world unravels further. Dive into a journey among the Horde whose sole mission is the destruction of the Circle. Come face-to-face with an enchantingly beautiful creature with unearthly powers---and questionable motives. Take a stand with the chosen but be wary, for all is not as it seems. Now the chosen themselves are questioning their very sanity. For the only way to win may be to lose. The only way to live may be to die. And the only one to lead may be a lunatic.

Reviews - What do customers think about Bktrax-Disc-Lunatic (Lost Books V5) (Unabridged)(5CD)?

Not Ted Dekker  Dec 8, 2009
I have read all of the previous books in this series with great interest - Dekker is an amazing writer. However, once I started reading this book, it became obvious that Dekker is not the primary author, but Kaci Hill, whoever that is. The writing style is totally different, the characters flat, the descriptions boring, etc. I have lost all interest in finishing the last two books of the series (Lunatic and Elyon) and simply stopped reading after about two chapters.

Crazy Like a Lunatic  Nov 24, 2009
In the interest of full disclosure I'll have to say I have not read the preceding four books but this one did give a glimpse into a world that may be worth exploring further. Coming in late though there was a lot to play catch up on and to be fair I may modify my review if I read additional books in this series.

We meet three heroes who have apparently spent some time in our world but not five years which, to their surprise, is what how much time they've been away from their own (seems the jetlag when traveling between worlds is a killer). So just when they apparently thought their trials were over they find themselves in a world controlled by the bad guys where once clear healing waters are not blood red and some of their friends are missing.

The usual quest type adventures soon begin with crazy prophecies, strange alliances, captured friends and mysterious ladies. I can't say any of it is wholly original but it does keep moving and as a young adult novel it's probably just right. Apparently there will be a sixth book as well to complete the adventures and the set.

Captivating Story  Oct 22, 2009
Having not read the other books in the series, I was afraid that reading Lunatic would leave me feeling lost and wondering what was going on. My concerns were quickly disolved as I started into the story and found that all the important points were integrated into the story in a non-destructive manner that kept the story flowing from cover to cover. The book was very enjoyable, with plenty of action and suspense to keep the reader on their toes. I am looking forward to purchasing the other books in this set.

I'm guessing the first few were much stronger  Oct 14, 2009
My 3 star rating is partially based off of the fact that I don't feel that I can honestly rate this book either higher or lower considering that I have not read the books before it. I hate starting in the middle of a series, but when that's what you have, that's where you start.

To be honest with you, I was far more interested in the back story that I apparently missed then the current goings on in this particular book. This leads me to believe that I would have enjoyed those far more. The characters are rather flat to an adult reader, but should serve their purpose for a YA novel. The language was clean, the violence was minimal and there was a quiet Christian influence running through the background. On the whole, I wouldn't have any issue with handing this particular book to any SciFi fanatic teen.

Gist of the tale - in the distant future our heros return from their past (apparently they went back into the past to retrieve a stack of books... then when they zapped forward, it was 5 years into their future). They head into their future believing that with their retrieval of the books, all will be well. But the future is much darker then they left it. The bad guys have made quite a bit of progress while they were gone, and now it looks like they have at least another 200 pages of work ahead of them.

I don't want to give too much away, so I will simply echo what others have said, start at the beginning, because this really doesn't function well as a stand alone book. There were parts of the book that I thought I might have issues with, but for all I know my problems with it may have been handled in a previous novel. If you were a fan of the first several novels, then I would assume that you will enjoy this one as well. I don't know that I will go back and read the first few, but I don't regret reading this one.

Lord of the Rings Meets Dungeons & Dragons  Sep 24, 2009
"Lunatic" was an entertaining sci-fi tale of time travel; the Hordes; murky red waters that have lost it's healing properties; a scab disease, and forests filled with Albinos, a race of rebellious people bent on eluding and fighting the evil Hordes (who are determined to hunt them down and kill them at all costs). There are fight scenes, mythical creatures, sorcery, treachery and betrayal.

Johnis and his band of friends have returned after locating and retrieving several books necessary for the survival of their world. Finding themselves five years in the future, with the past unclear and the present scary, they try to solve the mystery of why things are so different in their world than when they left. Why does it appear that evil is more prevalent.

When I selected this book, I did not realize that to fully appreciate it, I should have already read the previous stories. So for me, while this was an entertaining read, I didn't necessarily understand everything that was happening and I definitely did not think that this was a stand alone novel. I would suggest that you not make this your first "Lost Book", and believe that to get a better understanding and appreciation of the story, I need to go back and read the entire series, in order from the beginning. But all things being equal, I give this book a 3 or 3.5.
