Item description for Living Life in the Zone: A 40-Day Spiritual Game Plan for Men by Kyle Rote & ...
Overview Presents a forty-day spiritual plan for men, offering inspirational scripture readings along with the stories of such sports figures as Tony Dungy, Kurt Warner, and John Wooden.
Publishers Description
Why this book? Because many men still have the desire to have a real faith dialog, but much of today's current church literature and methodology doesn't appeal to them. Living in the zone-that state of mind when almost everything seems to be working for you-is every man's desire. But how does a man live in the zone as a Christian? This 40-day spiritual journey is a sports-filled prescription for today's busy man designed to help remove stress and give him confidence to embrace his daily adventure. Each chapter is:
- Designed to strengthen both churched and unchurched men
- Brief enough for men to enjoy but with spiritual depth
- Filled with issues that are real but often not discussed in church
- Concentrated on a daily spiritual to-do list
Divided into four sections: Marriage, Children, Work, and Faith, each daily reading includes: - thought of the day
- words of wisdom on a particular subject
- biblical perspective
- insight for living it out
- questions to ponder
- today's call to action
- prayer requests
Real life stories focusing on the faith journey of famous athletes, coaches, businessmen, and other public figures encourages men that they too can handle adversity, walk in faith, and live in the zone. Includes input from celebrities such as Tony Dungy, Lee Corso, Chris Mortensen, Bobby Bowden and many more. |

 | Great Authentically Sports Oriented Devotional Book for Men Jan 5, 2010 |
Living Life in the Zone: A 40-Day Spiritual Game Plan for Men by Kyle Rote, Jr. and Dr. Joe Pettigrew is a great book for men who are looking to jump-start their devotional life. Through out this book the authors challenge the reader to be a real man of Christian Character. The authors share keen insights and interviews from legendary sports figures from around the world of sports. The book is intended to be read in 40 days. Each section is comprised of seven days worth of material that follows a common theme for the week. Sections are geared around the various relationships in a man's life such as his wife, children, friends, and work. ( The last section is noticeably shorter at 5 days.)
The author's have taken careful pains to maintain a rigorous order of steps for each day's reading. Making each devotional similar in style, but unique in substance. Overall the book is very readable, very organized, and authentically sports oriented.
I especially enjoyed reading this book as a devotional in the morning. It took only a few minutes to read and provided real insights with great questions. I can see it being used as a stand-alone devotional or used by a group of men for accountability purposes. My over all impression was that it was a great book. The only reservation that I have is that the scripture section at times can seem a bit light due to the topical nature of the book.
As a blogger I received a free review copy from the Thomas Nelson's Book Review Blogger program. There was no requirement to give it a positive review, just for the reviewer to call it like they see it. | | | | finally.... Jan 3, 2010 |
...a devotional guide to get excited about.
A very useful guide helping men to get excited about doing daily devotions. As a pastor, I often find it difficult to motivate men to take on the challenge of spending time in daily Bible and reflection. One of the reasons is because there is so little out there that piques the interest of men. Living Life in the Zone is a useful and interesting guide that I am convinced men will find useful and encouraging. I can't wait to begin an In The Zone study with the men in my church. | | | | A Man's Book about God and You Dec 25, 2009 |
Here's a man-oriented book to change your life.
Yes, it's a book by men for men. And it tells how connecting to God will give you a lot of answers to what you are going through.
Why this attracted me is that there is a commonly held presence you can get into, which many people call the Zone. But it's common in Zen Buddhism, and many other philosophies and religions. So whatever you hold as this Entity (God, the Universe, Allah, etc.), it's still the same point (IMHO) that all these texts are covering.
Now, a key point I liked was something that could have come straight out of Haanel or Troward or the Gospels. How this book's authors put it:
"Be quiet, be still, and let God speak to you."
You'd also see this in "the Secret". So it's nothing particularly new or unusual. The point is to just let your spiritual side have a chance to talk to you. Of course, this book is written from a definite Protestant Christian view. And we then see a lot of personalizations of this Force through out the book. That's all well and good.
The key point is that someone has taken the time to help another minority - Christian males - to deal with the various uncertainties of life through developing their own faith and connection with a Source larger than their individual personalities.
Because the book is written with sports figures as examples, and every lesson plan has subdivisions titled in sports language (Coach's Corner, The Game Plan, Playmakers, etc.), this is a natural way to communicate that every male should also tend to his spiritual side and live a much greater life because of it.
And that is exactly what appealed to me in all this - that you can be greater than you are, that you can aspire to and attain higher goals, that the world around you can be helped to achieve a higher degree of perfection.
All as you simply devote some time to connecting with the Divine on a regular basis. The 40-day plan is simply a very workable approach to help you through the changes which will occur as you do so.
My suggestion is to do all this program and then start over. Keep doing it until you have your life oriented the way you want it. | | | | Book Review - Living Life In The Zone Dec 21, 2009 |
As a person that is church-going, I am continually looking to find ways to draw myself closer to God. Some days it is not always easy! This book though has a lot of great ideas and is written in such a way that any man could easily relate to it. The book does not hit you over the head with scripture, but instead allows you to step back and see how biblical teaching touches your life daily and how you can incorporate scripture into your life daily.
I truly liked the daily journey that the book takes you on. It allows you to take a few minutes out of the day to reflect on how you can be a better person and a person that God would want you to be. While I am not through the 40 days, I do plan to continue reading this book, and do feel that though I am reading this by myself, that this book would be a great read for a men's group as well.
I also liked the consistency of each chapter. As I mentioned above, each chapter is broken down into sections that are consistent. I looked forward to reading the Coach's corner in each chapter that I read to see what the "coach" would have to say!
So I would definitely recommend this for men out there that are trying to connect with God in some way, the journey is worth it! | | | Write your own review about Living Life In The Zone
