Publishers Description Book three in the popular Men of the Saddle series by beloved author Lori Copeland. Six years ago, Susanne McCord tricked Cass Claxton into marrying her in a shotgun wedding. They haven't seen each other since that day, but when they cross paths again, everything has changed. Susanne has mended her ways--at least some of them--and she needs Cass to help her transport nine orphans cross-country in a covered wagon. They drive each other crazy as they encounter challenges along the trail, but through it all they find themselves falling in love as well. Who would've thought that a maverick like Cass could actually succeed in winning Susanne's stubborn heart? |

Reviews - What do customers think about The Maverick (Men of the Saddle #3)?
 | thoroughly enjoyable Dec 21, 2006 |
The Maverick is an excellent addition to The Men of the Saddle series. Cass Claxton, the bad boy of the Claxton brothers, has met his match. He's on his way home from visiting with brother Beau and sister-in-law Charity when four horsemen approach. One of the riders is Susanne McCord, who has to be one of the most infuriating women he's ever met. To his surprise they block his way. That's when Cass learns he's falsly accused of taking advantage of Susanne, when we wouldn't touch the woman with a fence post. Now he's the guest of honor at a shotgun wedding. Cass is furious, but the sherif holds the shotgun, and so he marries the lying coniving, sorry excuse of a female. As soon as the preacher, the sheriff, and the father of the bride ride away, Susanne cheerfully admits she lied, but she promises to have the wedding annulled the moment she reaches her aunt's home in St. Louis. But can a woman who lied once be trusted? The Maverick is another fun packed story of love and misadventure. Lori Copeland always leaves the reader hungery for more. | | | | The third book in the series... Sep 11, 2006 |
| This book was just as great as the first two in the Men of the Saddle series. I just got the four book from the library on Friday and I am on the fourth one already and it's only Monday. What can I say! The Claxton brothers make you want to sell everything and move out to Kansas!! I have enjoyed these books a great deal! The characters are great as are the story lines. If you want a great series to read, Men of the Saddle is it!! | | | | To tame a maverick... Apr 5, 2006 |
Having read about Cass Claxton in The Peacemaker, I had looked forward to reading his story. He is, after all, the bad boy of the Claxton men and thought his novel would be the most interesting in the series. Well... it is definitely interesting, but not in the same way I thought it would be. Class Claxton and Susanne McCord have a long history together. He was tricked into marrying her years ago when Cass refused to take her to see her aunt in Saint Louis. Cass thought Susanne would arrange an annulment once he took her to Saint Louis and all would be over between them. How wrong he was! Six years later, they meet again and discover that they are still married. They both thought that the other would be the one to annul the marriage, but neither of them did. When Cass asks for an annulment, Susanne agrees, but on one condition. When Susanne's aunt dies, she leaves Susanne in charge of nine orphan children her aunt looked after. Susanne wants Cass to take her and the children back to Kansas. Then and only then would she agree to an annulment, but would they want to separate once they spend time together? There are some twists throughout the novel.
The maverick Cass has met his perfect match with the spirited, scheming Susanne. They are at each other's throat throughout the novel. There are some wallbanging moments in the story because the protagonists got on my nerves at times. However, it was a treat to see Cass being outsmarted by the heroine. He was very unsympathetic in The Peacemaker and I'm glad I get to read about his struggles with a woman in his book. I got something different from what I thought I'd get from this installment. I thought Cass would somehow be a worse person than he turned out to be here. I guess I thought this because of the way Wynne Elliot (heroine in The Peacemaker) spoke about him. But he is a very appealing hero and not the cad I expected and I enjoyed him a great deal. The heroine, though annoying at times, is a real treat. She really gives Cass a hard time in this novel and I laughed on many occasions. The Maverick is another fun, uplifting installment in the Men of the Saddle series and I look forward to reading The Plainsmen. | | | | An old story rewritten for the Christian market Feb 13, 2006 |
| This took no effort at all on the author's part. This book was written years ago for the secular market, "Christianized," and resold. A total ripoff. | | | | THOROUGHLY ENJOYABLE Nov 5, 2005 |
| DELIGHTFUL, TOUCHING STORY WITH A FIESTY HEROINE, HUNKY HERO AND ADORABLE CHILDREN. QUITE DIFFERENT STORYLINE. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. | | | Write your own review about The Maverick (Men of the Saddle #3)
