Item description for This Side Of Heaven by Karen Kingsbury...
Overview Painfully estranged from her son, Annie Warren learns in the wake of a devastating tragedy about the existence of her eight-year-old granddaughter, whose desperate mother spins a web of deception to claim a financial settlement. Original.
Publishers Description A story of secrets, broken relationships, and a love strong enough to reunite a family. A stirring novel from New York Times bestselling author Karen Kingsbury.
From Publishers Weekly Christian fiction author Kingsbury is well loved by her fans, and this newest story, based loosely upon her own brothers death, will further endear her to her faithful readers. Kingsbury tells the story of a strained relationship between picture-perfect Nate and Annie Warren, whose son, Josh, a tow truck driver, has been a disappointment to them. Even though Joshs mistakes are now history, his current joblessnessowing to a drunk drivers recklessnessserves to ratchet up his parental disapproval rating. Only a few people know the truth: Josh is a real-life hero and his one hearts desire is to be united with a daughter hes never met. When Joshs life is struck again by tragedy, his immediate family must come to grips with the recognition that they never really cared enough to ultimately know their son. Kingsbury does a fine job communicating the emotional struggles of individuals, and readers will resonate with her characters sorrows and losses. Yet much of the story is formulaic, which detracts from its otherwise powerful message about acceptance. (Jan.)Copyright 2008 Reed Business Information. |

| The whole time I was reading this book, I was putting myself in the adoptive parents place...what would I do if I where in that situation? It is a heartwrenching story and I had to keep my box of tissues nearby while reading it! | | | | GREAT BOOK! Feb 12, 2010 |
| xcellent book! I finished in one day and raved to my friends that they just had to read it! | | | | Not bad, but kind of sad... Nov 27, 2009 |
If you haven't already, it would help to read the Cody Gunner series before reading "This Side of Heaven." But it is not absolutely necessary. In this book, Karen Kingsbury uses a plot device she has used before: an adorable child, living in a bad situation, longing to find her missing parent. Her father does want to find his daughter, but he is being prevented from doing so. There is a death partially through "This Side of Heaven" that caught me very much by surprise. But before long, I could guess how the story was going to end. The evil character in the book gets what is deserved in the end. The messages I took away from "This Side of Heaven" were: One can lose his or her faith but later have it restored, and second, Don't judge someone else without knowing all the facts. | | | | A must read book!! | This is the first Karen Kingsbury book I have read and I loved it!!! Can't wait to read the rest of her books! | | | | way too sad and depressing, but one good point Oct 12, 2009 |
This is the first book I have read by this author and I was not impressed enough with it to ever read any more by her. There is one good thing about this story: During at least the first half and possibly even longer I kept asking myself, "what is the point here?". Well, I finally realized what it was--it is an excellent one. Parents should accept what their adult children decide to do with their lives and always be open to finding out what they are actually doing. Beware of closing the door of communication. This is the only good thing I took away from this sad and depressing read. It contained way too much preaching! I have known many Christians during my life and very few, if any, get instant replies back from God when asking Him questions. This aspect of the story is so unrealistic that I could not believe it.
After reading the note in the back I could understand a little better why she wrote it. And I certainly do feel bad for what her family experienced in a very personal way. | | | Write your own review about This Side Of Heaven
