Item description for Eat the Cookie...Buy the Shoes: Giving Yourself Permission to Lighten Up by Joyce Meyer...
Celebration is a concept that we reserve for very few occasions, but God instructs his people to celebrate and indulge throughout the Bible.
Engrained in our culture is the belief that unbending discipline is the only sure way to success. You must go to the gym five times a week, never order the dessert, and don't even think about buying that dress you keep staring at in the store window. Breaking from such a regimented lifestyle is a sign of weakness, right? Wrong!-and Joyce wants to tell us why...
Though setting rules in our lives are important, it's just as important that we break them from time-to-time. Structure is a powerful tool, but when diverging from your own goals is seen as catastrophic, it can have a hugely negative effect on us. Balance is a core value in life and every once in awhile we deserve to indulge in a guilty pleasure or two. So don't feel bad about straying from your goals every once-in-awhile and in fact, embrace it: eat the cookie and buy the shoes!

Reviews - What do customers think about Eat The Cookie Buy The Shoes?
 | It's all in the title May 20, 2010 |
| First, the description on the this site page I saw for this product was misleading-- I thought this would be a CD, but it's a book. That problem aside (which will hopefully get corrected) the message in this book is good-- that we deserve some time and luxury in our lives, and that it's ok to treat yourself and not always deprive yourself of what you want. But there's not a lot of new information here and the title pretty much tells the story. I think Joyce Meyer brings positive and helpful messages generally and provides good lessons in how to live life, but sometimes in an effort to create another product to sell, the substance isn't always there. I prefer some of her other books, like Battlefield of the Mind: Winning the Battle in Your Mind. | | | | Has an excellent message May 15, 2010 |
Joyce Meyer's latest book begins with the story of a cookie. She and her husband were watching their weight and she felt guilty for having a third of a cookie. He didn't help any by "reminding" her that she had cheated. She turned this "event" into a learning experience, illustration and book.
We all have rules that we have set for ourselves. When we break them we feel guilty. Meyer's reminds us that it is alright. We should not feel guilty. While rules are important we should give ourselves a break. She is not talking about sin but the little things like buying a pair of shoes, eating a cookie, taking a nap or missing a trip to the gym. She encourages us to celebrate life using scripture to support her thesis. Take time to enjoy the little things in life.
While I enjoyed the audio book, I expect something meatier from Meyers. This is MS Meyer's own fault. Her former books have had depth and strong message. The message was good, encouraging, feel good but not deep. The whole book could have easily been told in one chapter. The first chapter is excellent from there I expected more depth but it wasn't there. That does not make this a bad book. It still has an excellent message. | | | | Eat the Cookie...Buy the shoes May 13, 2010 |

| This book is a great encouragement, especially since I am given to being a bit overly critical of self. As always, Joyce gives very practical and relevant examples of the right and wrong actions. Reading it has been a breath of fresh air to my soul and a much needed reminder that I am still a work in progress with God. If you need help resetting your perspective of yourself, and others, read the book! | | | Write your own review about Eat The Cookie Buy The Shoes
