Failing Forward  Dec 8, 2009
Excellent book to help you look at failure as a method to improve.
If you're not learning from your mistakes, this will teach you how to evaluate
and improve in this area. John shares the story of many successful people who failed multiple times before they "got it right". Very encouraging words for everyone.

More applicable now than ever  Sep 21, 2009
I first picked tis book up before the big crash of Fall 2008. I admit that I did not get very far into it before the crash as I have with other Maxwell books. But after the crash, when so many have experienced a failure, the message is very timely for many people.

The book is brimming with optimism, but not in a "things will always get better" kind of a way. It is a thorough description of the results of effort, trial and error, and risk. I particularly enjoyed the chapter on risk. Maxwell is big on quotes, and my favorite from this book is from Amelia Earhart: "Decide whether or not the goal is worth the risks involved. If it is, stop worrying." I also like the concept that says the less you venture out, the greater your risk of failure and that the more you risk, the greater your chances of success.

If you have had a failure recently, this book will absolutely comfort you and give you the courage to get up and keep moving.

You're not a failure just because you fail  Sep 11, 2009
The message in this book is clear: You may fail at times in your life but you are not a failure. And from our failures we can find new strengths and directions. When things don't live up to our expectations (especially during these bad economic times) it's easy to think we're failures. A few so called "self help" books out there even try to impart this negative message as well. John Maxwell presents very uplifting, insightful, and realistic encouragement to help restructure your life and gives you practical strategies. Changing the way of thinking about decisions we make, and presents ideas to set new paths for ourselves. Not to mention sharing the wonderful stories about others who have had incredible success after terrible setbacks in their lives. I am only half way through this book, but already recommending it to others. Thank you Mr. Maxwell. And thank you to the dear friend who wisely gave this book to me as a birthday gift.

This book is transforming!  Aug 28, 2009
I am a big fan of John Maxwell. I virtually have every book and recently acquired this one. I was afraid of failure, it had me paralyzed a good part of my life. I was told every day as a child that I was a loser and couldn't do anything but fail and so I made those dreams come true! Now I now it is ok and even good to fail to teach us lessons in life and and to give us growth and motivation. I now plan to fail (not intentionally) to know it is ok and to push myself into achieving height's I never knew of until now. Next to the Bible this is my next favorite book!
