 | Wonderful book! Nov 21, 2009 |
| Wonderful book with a terrific story - kept my 8 & 10 year old sons very interested! | | | | Bringing the Gospel behind the Iron Curtain Apr 21, 2009 |
Brother Andrew's story is a remarkable example of God's grace transforming and rescuing someone's life from sin and despair. It shows the great good that God can accomplish through humble service. Andrew van der Bijl grew up in Holland around the time of the Nazi occupation, and later served as a young man in the Dutch army in Indonesia. Scarred by his wartime experience, and having eschewed the faith of his parents, he returned from battle with a badly wounded leg and a heavy drinking problem. But the transformation that was in store for him when he cracked open the Bible his mother gave him, was to pave the way for the passion that would drive the rest of his life.
Finding that God forgave him for his sins, and discovering the joy of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Andrew found a new purpose for his life. Though not educated enough to become a career missionary, he sought God's leading and through a remarkable set of circumstances he became a smuggler of Bibles into communist countries. The accounts of his travels and how prayer and faith were his only protection against the communists, who tried to interfere with his work of distributing Bibles where they were scarce, are very inspiring. From the humble beginnings of carrying books in his suitcase, to landing crates full of 1,000,000 Bibles in China, Brother Andrew truly has done much to advance the Gospel throughout the world. I highly recommend this very readable and fascinating account of his life. | | | Write your own review about Brother Andrew: God's Secret Agent (Christian Heroes: Then & Now)
