Item description for Zondervan NIV Matthew Henrys Commentary 1V (Premier Reference) by Matthew Henry, & J. D. Douglas...
Overview The only edition of Matthew Henry adapted to the New International Version. For almost three centuries, Henry's work has been a source of inspiration and wisdom. But modern readers sometimes get bogged down in Henry's wordiness and archaic expressions and get confused by works that have changed meaning over the years. This edition contains the essence of what he wrote, but in simpler terms that are adapted to the NIV.
Publishers Description Time has sealed the reputation of Matthew Henry's classic commentary as a rich source of insight into God's word. Four centuries after its first publication, it remains one of the best-loved, most popular commentaries ever written. However, while its wisdom is timeless, the English language has changed much through the years. Words that meant one thing in Matthew Henry's day have taken on different meanings today. In addition, Henry's often wordy reflections are generations removed from the crisp style that communicates most effectively to contemporary readers. The Zondervan NIV Matthew Henry Commentary is a masterful response to these concerns. It delivers the heart and soul of Henry's incomparable writings in a style that is easy to read and understand. -Dr. Leslie Church's meticulous abridgment retains the essential content of the original work. - Easily misunderstood words have been replaced with modern ones while keeping Henry's style. - Use of the New International Version (NIV) instead of the King James Version makes this edition fully compatible with today's most widely used Bible translation. In one volume, here is a wealth of exposition, metaphors, analogies, and illustrations, ideal for - Personal devotions - Bible study - Sermon and lesson preparation |

Reviews - What do customers think about Zondervan NIV Matthew Henrys Commentary 1V?
 | Considered a classic? Aug 26, 2005 |
| Just because this commentary is considered a classic doesn't mean that it is particularly insightful. Matthew Henry lacks knowledge of biblical culture and often resorts to simplistic reiteration of scripture. In my years of ministry I have found Matthew Henry to be one of the least used commentaries. | | | | Highly recommended reference Jun 18, 2002 |
| I haven't read this from cover to cover. I don't think that is the purpose of the book. I have used this as a reference for my bible readings. I find the info in this book to be extremely helpful. I have a commentary Bible which is helpful but this book goes a step further. I recommend this to anyone who wants to know more about what passages mean. Matthew Henry is the one to read. | | | Write your own review about Zondervan NIV Matthew Henrys Commentary 1V
