| I was so disappointed in this "study" I don't even know where to begin . It was very weak-very humanistic. Blackaby pulled sections of Mark wherever he saw fit and often tried to relate them to whatever he wanted to talk about-we never looked at the scriptures inductively only subjectively- if at all.He made many blank statements that could be disproved scripturally but there is no room to point them all out here. I will share one example of his agenda on a certain topic- Lesson # 3- Jesus Commands Nature- the story of Jesus walking on water during the storm Mark 6:45-51 on page 44 Blackaby says "Jesus needed the waters of the Sea of Galilee to be a surface to walk on not to be a floating surface so He made it so"-indicating that Jesus could use any "natural resource" for His purpose leading to Blackaby's unusual questions-" Is there a resource in your life today the Lord might desire for you to use differently? Is there something you own that might have a second life or a talent that the Lord might want you to redevelop and use in a new way- and are there ways in which God might inspire His people to unlock the still secret ways spiritual power might impact natural resources? " What do these questions have to do with the passage??? I have no idea! First of all Blackaby's not even correct scripturally-Jesus did not change the water so he could walk on it-(using His natural resource wisely-a crazy line of thinking) He walked over to the boat while the wind and storm were still going .Secondly: Is the point in this passage to encourage us to use natural resources wisely or is it to show that Jesus is God-to show His power-to see the disciples fear and unbelief and so much more.....I'm sure anyone could develop questions better than this if they looked at the passage(isn't that what a Bible Study is supposed to do?)and didn't have a certain agenda they were shooting for. Sure there were a few redeeming moments in the book but there were too many places where the stories and questions were directed by Blackaby's notions and to the reader- How do you feel? What do you think? What would you do? All very experiential- and loosely if at all interpreting what the Scripture passage was about. I used to admire Blackaby but something is very wrong here -I am saddened by his publisher in using his popularity to crank out this and other books-with such poor material, misleading people to think this is a Bible Study.I do NOT reccomend it and wouldn't even give it one star if I thought I could. | | | Write your own review about Mark: A Blackaby Bible Study Series (Encounters with God)
