A tremendous CD, get it today!!! Dec 27, 2009
The boys have done an incredible job on this one. Great songwriting, excellent harmonies, a tremendous production all the way around. This one will stay in my changer for a long, long time.
Pilgrimage is not a journey worth taking Dec 25, 2009
I bought this product because I saw the Gatlin Brothers live, and expected their new work to live up to their past glory. Unfortunatly; I was disappointed. I would not suggest anyone purchase this album. It is terrible.
Gatlins return to their roots with Pilgrimage Nov 23, 2009
Being a fan for nearly thirty years I was delighted to hear of the long awaited release of Pilgrimage. Larry actually sounds better on the remakes of Sweet Becky Walker and Penny Annie than on the raw original versions. It was a nice personal touch to add the narrataives as well. There isn't a bad cut in the bunch. I keep rewinding to If I Ever See You or Utah again. It reminds me of Larry's early works on his Love Is Just A Game album years ago.
Shut Up And Sing Oct 13, 2009
As a lifelong Gatlin Brother fan, you know I was very excited that the greatest trio to ever sing country orientated music have released a new CD. The music, all in all is good to great...but the stories that Larry chooses to share in between the songs are one big pain. Shut up and sing Larry! Certainly these stories are great to hear the first time around, but aren't CD's meant for one play?
A countrypolitan legend looks back Oct 7, 2009
Larry Gatlin & The Gatlin Brothers "Pilgrimage" (Curb, 2009) --------------------------------------------- Countrypolitan elder Larry Gatlin looks back on his career, and on the help that Johnny Cash, one of his early patrons, gave him back in the day. Gatlin pays homage to the Cash family with a new song, "Johnny Cash Is Dead (And His House Burned Down)," and records several old songs such as "Sweet Becky Walker" that bring back memories of the old days. He also mixes in some spoken dialogue with the songs, talking about Cash and their friendship, giving this album a very personal feel. Gatlin's an old-timer now, and his voice is much more rugged than it was in the 1970s, but when his brothers kick in with a chorus, buoying up the robustness and enthusiasm that Larry brings to this project. A nice treat for longtime fans. (DJ Joe Sixpack, Slipcue Guide To Country Music)
