Item description for Fool Moon Rising by Kristi Fluharty & T. Lively Fluharty...
Overview The Moon learns the importance of humility and the dangers of pride after boasting about being the greatest light in the sky.
Publishers Description
Through this illustrated tale about the moon stealing the sun’s glory, children learn about the importance of humility and the dangers of pride. This rhyming, rollicking tale tells of a crime of cosmic proportions: the moon, blinded by pride, fails to see the true source of his abilities—the light provided by the sun. He boasts of his ability to shine, to change shape throughout each month, and to swell the tides. One day, overwhelmed by a piercing ray of sunshine, the moon repents of his pride and changes his ways, and from that point on he is happy to reflect the sun’s light. This beautifully illustrated book introduces the concept of humility to children. Readers will be reminded that everything we have, including our gifts and talents, is from God. Just as the moon learns to boast only of the sun, children—and their parents—learn that to boast of anything other than the Son is utter foolishness. |

 | great illustrations May 4, 2010 |
| I enjoyed this book. My son will soon enjoy it too (hes still a baby). I didn't give it five stars though because I was hopping there would be the message of the gospel in it. Instead it is more of a moral lesson book for idolatry and pride. Which are still great lessons :) I think the illustrations are yummy, very big and colorful and engaging. Would buy it again and I would recommend it to a friend. | | | | A Parable About Pride Apr 14, 2010 |
Written in the form poem as a child's prayer to God, FOOL MOON RISING is a beautiful and moving parable about pride. The book has a child asking God if this story he has heard about the moon is true. The moon once lived solely for himself. His goal and aim was to sing his own praise and have everyone recognize how great he was. Then one day his eyes are opened and the moon is forced to realize what everyone else has known all along, that his light isn't his own but is a reflection of the sun. The story ends with the boy from the beginning asking God for grace to find joy in all he does, making much of God. At the end of the book there are some discussion questions as well as some fun facts about space.
FOOL MOON RISING is a gloriously illustrated book. The illustrations are so bright and colorful, full of rich and peaceful shades. The pictures appeal not only to youngsters, but to adults who still have a childlike spirit.
The story is fairly straightforward, yet purposely leaves certain elements open so that someone reading to a child can have something to discuss. For instance, what the parable is really about is never really mentioned.
There's also a lot of humor involved in the story. It's a humor that children will laugh aloud at, yet has another layer that adults can appreciate it. For instance, the scene with astronauts in tutus dancing across the moon's surface is something that children will laugh at, but only adults will catch on to the subtleties of the astronauts "dancing" for the moon's pleasure.
FOOL MOON RISING is a marvelous children's book. It's one that both adults and children probably won't tire of reading. | | | | Beautiful, entertaining, and uplifting! Mar 12, 2010 |
This beautifully illustrated book by Kristi and T. Lively Fluharty tells the story of the moon and how he is full of pride and vanity. He believes he is the greatest source of light...until he meets the sun. The lesson taught is that the child learns to be grateful for their blessings and not try to be prideful. The book concludes by showing a child in prayer, thanking God for all the joy and grace He gives.
Full Moon Rising will captivate your children and make them want you to read it to them again and again. The author and illustrator did a great job working together, even hiding little details in the drawings that you might not catch at first.
This 32-page book is from Crossway Books and is a must have for your Christian children's book library.

| My kids often request to read this book. It is beautifully illustrated and uses a creative tale to teach an important lesson- our boast should be in Christ alone. | | | Write your own review about Fool Moon Rising
