	Gift for a Prison  Aug 14, 2009
This book was sent as a gift to a women's correctional center. The libraries in prisons are usually abysmal, and MANY inmates long for decent reading. Rehabilitation is furthered when inmates improve their minds. You can send books to prisons if they're mailed directly from a publisher or book store. I recommend it!!

Nellie Mae Fisher and her love, Caleb Yoder, are separated by a church split. Caleb's father is not allowing Caleb to see Nellie Mae anymore since her father has left the Old Order Amish Church and started attending a New Order one. Nellie Mae assures Caleb she intends to stay Old Order, but she can't deny the pull she has toward the New Order church her parents attend. Caleb can risk everything if he disobeys his father and continues seeing Nellie Mae. Nellie is worth it to Caleb, but he doesn't know how he can support a family if his father takes his inheritance away. He promises Nellie Mae that he will find a way for them to be together, but it is getting more difficult. How can Caleb and Nellie remain true to each other, yet satisfy the expectations of the People? THE FORBIDDEN is the second book in The Courtship of Nellie Fisher series, and readers will want to read these books in order, starting with The Parting. The final book in the series will be available in September 2008. I love this series, and enjoyed reconnecting with Caleb, Nellie Mae, and the other characters. It has been a while since I read The Parting so it took me a few pages to remember what happened with Nellie and Caleb so I could get back into the story. The secondary story involving Roseanna and her cousin Kate, took me a little longer to remember. But once I could recall the previous story line, I thoroughly enjoyed THE FORBIDDEN. Ms. Lewis is a wonderful storyteller, and her writing just keeps getting better. I couldn't wait to read this book, and now that it's finished I'm disappointed as it will still be several months before I can read the next book in the series. The faith message is an important part of this story, and the struggle between two different cultures. Beverly Lewis is one of my favorite authors, her stories as detailed as some of the Amish quilts I've seen. You'll not want to miss THE FORBIDDEN or any of the books in this series.

This is book 2 in the series: The Courting of Nellie Mae Fisher. This books picks up where book 1 left off. We are learning about the divide that is happening in Nellie's Amish community due to some people beginning to study the bible and becoming saved. Then there are the other Amish who cling to the "old ways" and do not want to hear anything whatsoever about the New Order that has changed the lives of so many Amish in the community. Then there are some who seem to be only concerned with "fancy" things like cars, telephones, electricity, and tractors. Even those in the New Order do not wish to have these things--they only wish to study the bible and be saved. Meanwhile, Nellie Mae is torn between following the New Order (where some important people in her life head toward) and the Old Ways (where some other important people in her life want to stay--don't want to give too much away). There is also the continuation of the side plot with Nellie's dear friend, Rosanna, who longs to be a mother and has suffered multiple miscarriages. You won't believe how that story unfolds! This book definitely is a page-turner. It kept me up till 4 a.m. this morning to find out what would happen! I immediately started book 3 and read till I couldn't keep my eyes open. That review to follow as soon as I finish that book! If you read book 1, The Parting, read this one. It is even better!
	Nellie Mae's story continues  Feb 24, 2009
This is the second book in the "Courtship of Nellie Fisher" series, the first being The Parting (The Courtship of Nellie Fisher, Book 1) and the third The Longing (The Courtship of Nellie Fisher, Book 3). I very much enjoyed the first book in this series, and am happy to say that I also enjoyed this second book. Lewis continues the story of Nellie Mae. Nellie Mae and Caleb's relationship is just one of the stories running through this book. Nellie's sisters are all travelling different paths, and the grief about Suzy's death still remains. Meanwhile Rosanna and Kate have come to a disagreement regarding the twins, and in the middle of everything is religion. Lewis has done it again with this book. I definitely recommend this story and series, and will be picking up the third book very soon.
